My work incorporates the use of both installation and drawings to reflect my observations and thoughts of my surroundings and experiences. I am continually seeking to portray the ephemerality, delicacy and impermanence of our natural environment as well as our finicky existence. I do this by recreating impressions of this environment using environmentally destructive, man-made materials in combination with fabricated light sources and organic, natural imagery juxtaposed with everyday synthetic imagery. These choices express the possibilities of our actions and how we continually choose whether or not we are preserving what naturally surrounds us or denigrating it and how these choices affect our own survival.
Plastic and light are my materials of choice for three-dimensional and graphite my choice for two-dimensional explorations. I use both of these techniques in a very delicate way, never giving in to heavy handedness or unambiguous, forced expressions. The slight satirical nature of the use of these materials is very important in the revelation of my insight but it also isn’t allowed to dominate the experiences of others. These installations and drawings portray an ephemeral moment in nature that isn’t in actuality natural at all… but completely created by the unintended, yet perpetrated actions of human beings.
